Mersing Jetty to Tioman

Tioman Island is definitely an amazing destination for visitors to relax themselves from the city hustle. If you’re planning a getaway to the tropical paradise of Tioman Island, Mersing Jetty is your point of embarkation for an unforgettable adventure. Though Tioman Island is under the ownership of Pahang, it is possible to go there from Mersing, Johor, as it is the city closest to Pahang.

 

Ferry schedule and route

Generally, the ferry is scheduled to run three times a day. However, the ferry schedule typically depends on the season and weather conditions. During the peak tourist season, which usually runs from March to October, you can expect more frequent ferry departures.

It is estimated to take 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours from Mersing Jetty to Tioman Island. As there are 7 villages in Tioman Island, the ferry from Mersing Jetty will stop at 5 main villages, except Mukut and Nipah, starting from Genting pier all the way to Salang pier. So, you can choose to stop at which pier depending on your planned trip, considering the stay and activities you would love to experience.

 

Ticket fee

As of 2023, the rate for ferry tickets are between RM50-RM65, depending on the operator and type of ferry that you choose. Purchasing a ferry ticket on Bluewater’s official website charges RM120 per adult for a return trip, while RM110 for a child.

Ferry tickets can be purchased directly at Mersing Harbour Centre from 7:30am to 8:00pm. It is advised to book a return trip for your journey since there is no ticketing counter for ferries in Tioman Island.

By road, from Kuantan Airport, take a right turn and drive for approximately 1km. Upon reaching the main road, turn left drive up for another 16km until the inter junction fly-over. Turn left and drive down for 100 metres before turning to the right. Travel for another 4km to the T-junction and turn left to Kuala Terengganu / Pelabuhan. Tasik Chini Lake

Lake Chini or Tasik Chini, about 100 kilometers from Kuantan, with an area 12,565 acres of lush tropical wilderness, is Malaysia’s second largest natural lake.

Situated on the right bank of the Pahang river, This magical lake is endowed with an endless and captivating scenic beauty and vast tranquil environment and at the same time conceals a mystery lurking beneath its calm waters.

The enchanting lake, actually a series of 12 inter-connecting water bodies referred to as ‘Laut'(sea) by the locals, is a generous treasure trove of nature heritage. The area is richly endowed with biological resources where 138 species of territorial flora and some 300 species of non aquatic vertebrates have been found. The water system is also home to a numerous aquatic vegetation and 144 species of freshwater fish.

History of Chini Lake

The mysterious Tasik Chini is Malaysia’s answer to Loch Ness. Legend has it that the lake was the site of an ancient Khmer city, now completely submerged and guarded by mystical monsters.

 

How To Get There

Lake Chini is located in Chini Town at Pahang.By Road : Access to the lake is by road to Kampung Belimbing, about 100 kilometers, south west of Kuantan and then on by boat through the winding Chini river. Alternatively, one can go by road via Segamat Highway through the new town of Chini, and then continue traveling for 15 minutes through palm oil estate roads to the lake.

Kapas Island

Kapas Island is a haven of relaxing tropical atmosphere and is located in the South China Sea, about 20 minutes’ drive from Marang Jetty, Terengganu with a distance of only 6 kilometers. It is known as Kapas Island because the beach sand is white like a cotton. The white and clean beach here is very impressive to the visitors who come here. In addition, the water is so clear and the view of the seabed is so beautiful that it certainly makes many people fascinated. Kapas Island is also very popular for snorkeling and scuba diving because it has a beautiful coral reef with colorful marine life that certainly attracts many people’s attention. In fact, it is not only attracted local visitors, but foreign visitors are also attracted to vacation here.

The sea on Kapas Island is turquoise and has quite a lot of rocks. From the top view, visitors can also see patches of coral reefs and there are several shipwrecks that are used as fish habitats. How To Get To Kapas Island

Tourists can board a boat or ferry at Marang Jetty. Don’t get the wrong jetty either, because there is another jetty in Terengganu, the Merang Jetty, but only to Redang Island. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Marang Jetty to avoid congestion. The journey to reach Kapas Island is only about 30 minutes. The earliest boat or ferry trip is from 9.00 am.

Janda Baik

Janda Baik also known as “the good widow” in Malay. It’s a simple traditional village   surrounded by dense forests, waterfalls and river. Janda Baik has approximately 5000 population and located 45km from Kuala Lumpur. It is perhaps just 20 minutes drive away from nearest district Gombak.  This is one of the popular place for holiday and recreational activities for city folks.   • Pulau Santap : The meeting between the Bunus and the Ceringging river is the origin of the Janda Baik. In the early days, there was a small island that Sultan Abu Bakar from Pahang having his meal. Santap is derived from Palcae language which means having meal and that is where it got its name. The small island is no longer visible, but visitors still come and picnic here or take a bath because of its shallow water.
  • Ulu Tampit Waterfall. This place is highly recommended to visit known as Ulu Tampit Waterfall and is located in Latto Charok. Ulu Tampit Waterfall is a very fun place. There are seven levels of waterfall and the 4th, 5th and 7th floors are the most visited. It takes about 45 minutes of trekking and hiking through the forest to reach the top level. During the rainy season, you are not encouraged to go there because the water is cloudy and there are plenty of buds or leeches and also can cause you to fall down during a slippery climb. On the 5th floor of the waterfall, the panoramic view is magnificent while the 7th floor is the perfect place to soak your feet in the water. The water is very cold and a little deep, but you will not be carried by the stream. This is because it is one of the safest waterfalls to dive into. Kids are the best and enjoy playing on the 5th floor waterfall.
  • Mount Nuang : Gunung Nuang is the highest mount in Selangor (1493m). It is among the famous mountain for local and foreign trekkers. You can go hiking to Gunung Nuang through Janda Baik and it takes about 11 hours journey from the main entrance.

By Car : Drive from Kuala Lumpur just 45 km. Take the KL – Gombak Highways, after the first tunnel take a left turn, follow by a U-turn into the petrol station Petronas and follow the signage to Kg Janda Baik. 

By Train : Take a train Putra LRT to Gombak station.and take a cab or eHailing to Janda Baik. It will cost about RM100 per way.
